Young Professional Award

Tijana Smiljanic, P.Eng.

The ACEC-British Columbia Young Professional Award recognizes an individual young professional who has demonstrated excellence in consulting business practices, outstanding achievements in their applicable fields, and leadership in the community.

This year’s award recipient is Tijana Smiljanic, P.Eng. of McElhanney Consulting Services. Tijana joined McElhanney shortly after completing her engineering degree at UBC in 2006. She has worked on prominent, large assignments, specializing in major transportation design-build and P3 projects. Throughout her nine years with the firm, she has demonstrated technical excellence, an aptitude for teamwork, an eagerness to take responsibility, and a great understanding of the business of consulting engineering.

In addition to her accomplishments at McElhanney, Tijana has volunteered tirelessly, both within the consulting community, and in the community-at-large. Tijana has volunteered at Science World’s SciTech Summer Camp, involving 125 children; mentored a 9-year old girl through KidStart; and has found many other opportunities to share her experiences as a woman in the consulting engineering industry with other young professionals.

Tijana has been generous with her time at both the provincial and national levels, exhibiting poise and wisdom beyond her years. She has served as the Provincial Chair of ACEC-BC’s Young Professionals’ Group, and as an ex officio member of the ACEC-BC Board of Directors. She is currently the BC Representative for the ACEC-Canada Young Professionals Network (YPN), a national committee promoting best practices and leadership across Canada.
